Electral Justice Capacity Building

Article 4(2) of the Constitution of Kenya provides that Kenya is a multi-party democratic state founded on the national values and principles of governance referred to in Article 10. Regular, free and fair elections is the hallmark of democracy. It follows therefore that the agency that is charged with the responsibility of managing elections in Kenya, - independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) performs an extremely critical role in sustaining the life of our nation.

IEBC is however required to act strictly in accordance with the constitution and the rule of law. Any failure on the part of IEBC officers to understand the relevant laws or to keep abreast of the latest development in the laws governing the operations of IEBC therefore undermine the operational efficiency of IEBC and constitute an existential threat to electoral justice. It is for the above reason that Legal Education Forum undertakes the following activities.

  • Training IEBC officers on the latest and ground breaking legislative and case law developments that effect their work
  • Training IEBC officers on other areas of law that may have serious implications upon IEBC.
  • Training IEBC officers on how electoral management agencies in either countries are dealing with certain complex and difficult electoral challenges.
  • Conducting legal research on other areas that may be of interest to IEBC.
